How I came up with TechJive for a name?

Tech – This is all about technology, so this just makes sense.

Jive – I’ve got a coworker that uses the word “jive” to represent the nebulous “stuff.” “Can you get that marketing jive to me this afternoon?” It’s kinda catchy. Plus, dictionary.com says it’s slang for “to talk or chat.”

What’s my goal with TechJive? One thing I try to do in my professional life is help people find technologies that make their lives easier. We can have all the gadgets and gizmos that Microsoft, Apple, Palm, RIM, etc. make, but unless we actually take those technologies and make them work for us, we are replacing one inefficient non-electronic process and with an equally inefficient electronic process. That’s not to say that I don’t like new toys; I love me some new gadgets and gizmos. They’ll get their time on this site, too.

Back to the point at hand, technology should make our lives more efficient, not more chaotic. As I (try) to convey to my office, “I’m here to help. Let’s work together to find ways to leverage technology to make your work easier. And let’s look at the new technologies that are out there, and see how we might be able to apply them to your job.”
