Are you ever in a situation where you need just a simple, static website? I don’t find myself there very much anymore, but Weebly is a great option that is definitely worth checking out. I’ve put up a little demo site of my own.

The creation environment is all AJAX-ified, and is really clean and simple. You have the capability to place Google or YouTube videos on the site, Flickr photo galleries, files, etc. just like a normal site. You can also drop in a Google map, contact forms, AdBrite Ads, and custom HTML.

Weebly defaults to using a subdomain of weebly.com (e.g. techjive.weebly.com), but they give you the capability to set it up with your own domain name if you already own one. Some simple CNAME tweeking and that is all taken care of. And if you don’t want them to host it you can even save your site as a ZIP file and serve the files wherever you want. What more could you want from a free, web-based website creation tool?
