HTML Anchor Tag Tip
Google Tutor gave some valuable information out about creating better links in relation to the Google search engine. The gist of it is that when you make a link with text like “click here” the search engines are not indexing the link effectively.
No matter how intelligent Google may seem to be, it’s still machine and not man. So even if Google will know how to rank pages according to relevance to a search, the analytical skills required to see the context of a page is still not as good. Humans, of course, will know, for instance what a link saying “click me” means, especially if that phrase is preceded by “to read this cool piece of information.” But Google will only know it’s a “click me” and not “some piece of info.”
I am extremely guilty of using the “click here” link text; I tend to default to it. It could be said that this is not only not effective for search engine indexing, but using the “click here” link text is probably a lazy way of forming a sentence.
This is excellent information to know. I’m not the best at putting thoughts into written word, so any help I can get is appreciated. Thanks, Google Tutor, for your “Google Tips, Tutorials and Advice.”
